I need to find a value on a used John Deere Lawn Tractor?

Posted by admin in used tractors on March 1st, 2009

I need to know if there is a web site to find a value on a used lawn tractor. It is a John Deere GX85.

Your best bet it to find used ones on ebay or similar sites and check what they sell for. Most small riders like yours don't have any real "bluebook" values. Price depends on condition, age, etc.

Buying a used Tractor?

What are the right questions to ask when buying a used 55 HP +/- tractor for a farm?

Take someone along that is knowledgable about tractors like an old farmer… it will prove invaluble beyond just asking questions for yourself. They can always just BS you if you don't know what you are looking for yourself.

I need to know what is the best farm tractor out there?

I have gotten quotes on a Kubota, Massey Ferguson, and Mahindra. I am still unsure of them is going to give me the best results for my bucks. I have a little heavy lifting to clear some property and move some things around. But I want a good machine that will do the job. I can't afford to spend more than $15,000 as I am retired and on a fixed income. Does anyone know anything about tractors. I was told the Massey Ferguson was the best, some say the Kubota, than someone else told me to go and check out the Mahindra. Any ideas, please do not reply if you know nothing on the subject. I would certainly appreciate any serious answers.

Well, the Mahindra line of tractors, Ive not had a chance to get ahold of yet… I know they are made in India, and they have won the Deming Award (An excellence in Quality Manufacturing Award- named after Mr. Deming, who helped Japan rebuild after WW2)

Kubota tractors, Ive had good experience with. I was running Kubotas before they really became popular here in the US. There are a LOT of options for Kubotas.. not just in the many sizes of the tractors, but also in attachments. I have never had any problems with any of the Kubota tractors Ive run. Kubota is a Japanese brand, by the way, and they were the first implement company in Japan to win the Deming Award.

Massey Ferguson has been quite popular with farmers here in the US for a long time. Ive had the opportunity to run some of the older model MF's (mid-1960's or so). The big three in farming were the Massey Ferguson, Allis Chalmers, and John Deere. (With Sperry-New Holland joining in the 'large' farm operations). MF has had a strong history in farming equipment, and in fact it was Ferguson who came up with the original 3 point hitch, so common today. I haven't had the oppportunity to run any modern MF's, but Ive been impressed with how well the older models have held up. It is not uncommon in my neck of the woods to still see the older model MF's doing the heavy work on the farms and ranches around here.

Obviously, you want to look at the horsepower available with each model, and what attachments are available for what you are going to need to do on your property. You may want to seriously consider looking at some used machinery, rather than new….ask the dealerships about tractors that have been traded in, or check your local ads, or ebay of course, for something along this line. I don't know anything about the Mahindra line, but I feel comfortable recommending either Kubota, or MF… and I would lean a bit towards the Kubota, if I intended to use a variety of attachments. If I were looking for a 'farm' tractor, say, to pull a round baler, etc… then I would probably lean towards a used MF.

What kind of grease do I need to use in a Farmall H Tractor Rear Differential?

Posted by admin in farmall tractors on March 1st, 2009

Okay I said grease, meant oil.
Its in the forties, but tonight I'll be checking the serial number so I should no for sure.

It all depends on the year. What year is yours? If it is in the fortys then 80W90 will work just fine.
