I speak of a tractor part of a tractor-trailer combo such as a peterbilt model 379-127 etc. Sample ratios are "4.10", "2.79", "3.55" etc.
That is the gear ratio of the rear ends. Also called the final drive ratio. It means that for every 4.10 revolutions of the driveshaft the rear wheel turns 1 revolution.
It is possible to do this, but it's not a good idea. Jet fuel – kerojet (kerosene) – has chemical properties such that it does not combust at the same temperature and pressure in a diesel engine than diesel fuel does.
It is a good deal spendier per gallonm than no. 2 diesel anyways, so why speculate?
